Sherry grew up in Bear Grass, North Carolina. She studied and graduated from Martin Community College and Pitt Community College with backgrounds in Information Systems and Accounting.
She was employed by East Carolina University in the Financial Accounting department and retired after 30 years of service. She served as Student Loans Manager, Accounts Payable Manager, and project leader for Accounts Payable Banner Implementation. In 2008, she was promoted to Cash Control Accountant and was responsible for reconciling the Banner Finance System with the North Carolina Accounting System for state appropriations.
Sherry was awarded the Treasured Pirate Award and the Certificate of Achievement from the ECU Supervision Institute.
